Evans, R. S., Olver, R. E., Appleyard, W. J., and Newman, C. G. H. (1970). Archives of Disease in Childhood, 45,321. Effects of intragastric and intravenous sodium bicarbonate on rate of recovery from post-asphyxial acidosis in the neonate. A trial was carried out on acidotic infants recovering from neonatal asphyxia, on the relative effects of intragastric and intravenous sodium bicarbonate on acid/base balance. Intragastric bicarbonate caused an increased rate of correction of metabolic acidosis within 30 minutes of administration. However, the Pco2 remained higher in these patients than in the controls, so that the effect of the bicarbonate on rate of pH correction was negligible. The rise in Pco, occurred despite apparently normal respiratory function. A similar limitation of pH rise by a sustained rise in Pco, was evident in the intravenously treated patients. Treatment of metabolic acidosis in neonates with sodium bicarbonate may not produce the desired correction of pH.

متن کاملEffect of Sodium Bicarbonate and Sodium Chloride on Renal and Hematologic Factors in Patients with Glucose-6-phosphate Dehydrogenase Deficiency
Background: Sodium bicarbonate serum therapy is used for compensation bicarbonate lost and increasing blood pH in metabolic acidosis caused by severe anemia in patient with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency. The aim of present study was comparison the effect of serum therapy using two different serums (serum with bicarbonate and without bicarbonate) on some renal and hematolo...

Forty two small ruminants, 26 (61.90%) sheep and 16 (38.10%) goats were treated for rumen acidosis. 19 (45.24%), 12 (28.57%), 6 (14.29%) and 5 (11.90%) animals had eaten apple, cooked rice (wazwan left over) turnip and chapatti respectively and manifested clinical form of ruminal acidosis with, 2.86%; (n=18) as mild (Rumen fluid pH=6.32 ±0.09316), 38.09%;(n=16)moderate (Rumen fluid pH=5.71 ±0.0...
متن کاملRapid Revival of a Patient after very Severe Metabolic Acidosis: A Case Report
Background: Metabolic acidosis is a fatal finding in trauma patients that complicates the process of resuscitation. Case: The case was a 37-year-old man with open fracture in both legs and fracture in second lumbar vertebral (L2). The serial arterial blood gas (ABG) test results showed a pH value of 6.7 indicating a very severe and special case of metabolic acidosis. The rate of mortality f...
